2018 Aquarium Trends On the Horizon

Looking ahead to aquarium trends for 2018, we’re excited to see what’s on the horizon. We think these four trends will have a moment next year.

More Aquascaping

We’re seeing a increase in the trend to take aquariums up and out of the water. This happens often with beautifully done aquascapes that recreate a natural environment. These aquariums are planned in detail, take time and patience, but the results are stunning. Read more on how aquascaping can take your aquarium to the next level.

More Automation

Though this is a continuing trend, we expect to see advancements in automation technology for feeding, filtering, and monitoring the health of your aquarium. Eventually, most any adjustment to your aquarium system will be available, with real-time feedback data, in cloud and will be adjustable from your smartphone. While automation will alleviate any worries when you’re away from your aquarium, make sure you don’t fall into the “set it and forget it” mentality. Be sure you’re still checking on the health of your aquarium environment in person as well.

Quieter Pumps

Air pump technology is also getting quieter, making your aquariums a true relaxing environment. This is an exciting development when it comes to aquariums installed in offices, where distracting background noises can be a problem.

Different Angles

One developing trend we’ve seen at this year’s expos is new and unusual angles being incorporated into aquarium design. The company Lifeguard makes a sloped angled front aquarium, giving you a fuller view of the inhabitants. We also expect to see more bowed front aquariums that provide natural magnification what’s inside. Finally, sloped tops by Aqueon give the aquariums an almost frameless look.
