The Client

Jerry contacted Blue Planet Aquarium over the Thanksgiving holiday of 2016. He was a local business owner in Hebron, IN and bought a house he was rehabbing (as well as adding numerous garages for his car collection!). Sounded very interesting to say the least!

Needs and Challenges

Part of the house rehab was a family theater in the basement. I started talking to the General Contractor on site who was very hands-on, so I didn’t have any concerns about the project going well. The GC even had thoughts on how to improve the aquarium installation before I could even get them out of my mouth!

The Process

I made several trips down before getting started on the installation. Our moving team was going to have a challenge getting the 800 pound tank down a narrow flight of stairs and all of the hardwood floors had just been finished, so no carts or dollies could be used.

We had the tank delivered on site rather than to our facility first, due to the size of the tank and the location being far from our offices. A finicky truck driver did not want to drive down a narrow driveway to drop the tank and support stand near the house, so we had to take them for a two block walk from the street to the house!

The Results

Nobody lost any fingers moving the tank in place and the installation went as smooth as could be!

The tank is a picture frame-style or in wall aquarium, viewable only through the front panel. Located in the home theater, the black walls and ceiling of the room and darkness of the theater makes the colors of the custom coral insert and the array of fish really stand out!

The GC was able to get us some amenities that made the installation and future service a breeze. There wasn’t a water source or a drain in the area behind the tank and he was able to supply them. We installed a Reverse Osmosis/Deionization unit to store filtered water for water changes and the drain allows us to remove water easily from the aquarium without having to lug buckets.

Our techs head down to Hebron once a month to service the tank and currently it’s thriving, with fish, sharks, and eels! Another Blue Planet success story!
